The environmental organization Terra Cypria has reported the continuation of large-scale construction activities at the abandoned settlement of Trozena in the Limassol district. According to the organization, these earthworks and building projects are occurring within the Hapotami Special Protection Area, a designated Natura 2000 site, without the necessary environmental approval, planning permits, or building licenses.

Following a site visit on July 21, 2026, Terra Cypria confirmed that illegal works are taking place both within and outside the boundaries of the proposed redevelopment project. The organization alleges that authorities, specifically the Department of Environment, have failed to respond to repeated requests for information regarding the project's legal status and enforcement actions taken. This follows a Special Ecological Assessment for the rehabilitation of Trozena and the nearby village of Gerovasa, which was submitted in August 2025 and reviewed in February 2026, during which authorities initially identified unauthorized earthworks.

On July 22, 2026, Terra Cypria submitted a formal inquiry to the Department of Environment, the Game and Fauna Service, and the District Self-Government Organization. They are demanding immediate enforcement of environmental legislation and transparency regarding the licensing procedures for the site.
