The environmental organization Terra Cypria has reported ongoing large-scale construction work at the abandoned settlement of Trozena, located in the Limassol district. According to the organization, these activities are taking place within the Ha-Potami Natura 2000 protected area without the required environmental approvals, planning permissions, or building permits.

Following a field visit on July 21, 2026, Terra Cypria confirmed that earthworks and construction operations were continuing both inside and outside the proposed development site. The organization claims that these activities violate regulations concerning the Special Protection Area and the Special Area of Conservation. Despite submitting a Special Ecological Assessment study in August 2025 and discussing it on February 10, 2026, the authorities have reportedly failed to intervene.

Terra Cypria has sent formal inquiries to the Department of Environment, the Game and Fauna Service, and the Limassol District Local Government Organization. To date, these agencies have not responded to requests for information regarding the status of the development and the enforcement of environmental protections. The organization is currently calling for immediate legislative action to halt the unauthorized construction and ensure public access to information regarding the project's legal status.
