Cypriot sailor Pavlos Kontides secured the silver medal in the ILCA7 category at the Grand Slam event held in San Pedro, Los Angeles, on July 25, 2026. Heading into the final two medal races in first place, Kontides finished 8th and 9th, ultimately placing second in the overall standings. Australian Matt Wearn claimed the gold medal, while British sailor Michael Beckett rounded out the podium in third place.

This achievement marks the second consecutive year that the Limassol Nautical Club sailor has medaled at the Los Angeles Grand Slam, following a bronze finish last year in Long Beach. The result adds to a successful 2026 season for Kontides, who was crowned European Champion for the third time in his career this past May in Croatia. Additionally, he regained the world number one ranking in the ILCA7 class in June, a position he has maintained throughout this period. This success in San Pedro is particularly significant as the location is set to host the Olympic sailing events during the 2028 Olympic Games, where Kontides aims to make his sixth appearance.
