As part of the Larnaka 2030 European Capital of Culture initiative, a new project titled Human Traces has been launched to re-examine the city’s identity. The initiative emphasizes personal narratives, objects, and testimonies over conventional monuments or historical milestones, aiming to showcase the collective memory of the local population.

Central to this project is the Home of Memory (H.O.M.), described as a museum of the people. According to project lead Joseph Hadjikyriakos, the institution functions as a space where history is told through the lived experiences of ordinary citizens. The goal is to establish memory as a shared venue for encounter, ultimately redefining the relationship between art, public space, and the city's inhabitants.

The project underscores the philosophy that a city is defined by its people rather than just its infrastructure. By documenting unseen personal stories, the organizers intend to bridge the gap between the city’s past and its future, contributing to the broader framework of the European Capital of Culture program.
