Cypriot athletes secure first medals at Commonwealth Games in Glasgow

Cypriot athletes achieved significant success at the 23rd Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, marking a historic milestone with their first two medals of the competition. On the evening of July 27, 2026, hammer thrower Iosif Kesidis secured a silver medal with a throw of 76.97 meters, finishing behind Canadian Olympic champion Ethan Katzberg, who set a new games record of 80.97 meters. Shortly after, Milan Trajkovic claimed the bronze medal in the men's 110-meter hurdles, finishing with a season-best time of 13.32 seconds. This victory marked Trajkovic's first Commonwealth medal in his fourth appearance at the games.

While the athletics team celebrated their podium finishes, other members of the Cypriot delegation faced challenging results in gymnastics and swimming. Marios Georgiou finished fifth in the pommel horse final, and Sokratis Pilakouris placed fourth in the rings event, narrowly missing the podium by 44 milliseconds.
