Cyprus secures five medals at the 23rd Commonwealth Games in Glasgow

The Cypriot delegation at the 23rd Commonwealth Games in Glasgow achieved significant success on July 27 and July 28, 2026, securing a total of five medals across athletics and gymnastics. The medal count began on Monday evening with Iosif Kesidis, who won silver in the men's hammer throw with a distance of 76.97 meters, and Milan Trajkovic, who claimed bronze in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 13.32 seconds.

Gymnastics further strengthened the country's performance on Tuesday. Neofytos Kyriakou secured a bronze medal in the vault final with a score of 13.733. Shortly thereafter, Marios Georgiou earned two additional silver medals, one in the parallel bars final with a score of 13.800 and another in the horizontal bar final with a score of 14.166. These achievements brought Georgiou’s total career Commonwealth medal count to nine.

While the athletics and gymnastics teams excelled, other Cypriot athletes concluded their participation in Glasgow. Notable efforts included Alexandros Poursanidis, who finished seventh in the hammer throw, and Maria Erokhina, who placed 12th in the 200m individual medley. The successful performance has propelled Cyprus to 13th place in the overall medal table as the event continues.
