The Cypriot delegation continues its participation in the 23rd Commonwealth Games held in Glasgow, showcasing significant athletic efforts in gymnastics and swimming. On July 25, the men’s artistic gymnastics team secured fifth place with a score of 228.350, competing against major nations such as Canada, England, Australia, and Scotland. Despite the absence of experienced athletes Ilias Georgiou and Michalis Charis, the young team demonstrated competitive spirit and high technical potential.

In swimming, Maria Erokhina achieved 13th place in the 100m breaststroke with a time of 1:09:44, marking the first time a Cypriot swimmer advanced to the semi-finals at these Games. Filippos Iakovidis, competing in the 50m freestyle, finished 45th out of 68 participants with a time of 24:48, concluding his participation in the tournament. In the women’s artistic gymnastics, Georgia Charalambous finished 26th in the individual all-around qualification, missing the final by a small margin. As the competition progresses into July 26, focus shifts to gymnast Marios Georgiou, who qualified second for the individual all-around final, and weightlifter Dimitris Minasidis, who aims to compete for a podium finish.
