The Cypriot Ministry of Interior is preparing to revise building permit fees across all property categories, including homes, tourism facilities, and industrial developments. While some proposals suggest increasing the fee for a standard house from the current level of approximately €100 to as much as €400, Minister of Interior Constantinos Ioannou has stated he will not support any legislative proposal exceeding €180. The issue is scheduled for parliamentary debate beginning this September, with the exact fee structure likely to remain an open point for negotiation between political parties and stakeholders.

Provincial Self-Government Organizations (EOA) support the increase, citing that fees have remained unchanged since 2003. They argue that inflation has risen by 55%, wages by 90%, and construction costs by 186% during this period. The organizations maintain that current fees fail to cover the actual administrative costs of application processing. Meanwhile, the Cyprus Scientific and Technical Chamber (ETEK) is working on a simplified and more transparent method for calculating these fees to improve service quality and efficiency. It remains unclear whether the House of Representatives will ultimately approve the government's proposal or set the rates independently.
