Under the Protection of the Beach Law, igniting fires or using grills, commonly known as 'foukou', directly on the sand or beach facilities is strictly prohibited. Local authorities, municipalities, and the Police are actively conducting inspections, and violators face on-the-spot fines. Furthermore, camping or staying overnight on public beaches is illegal. Sleeping in tents or improvised structures in non-designated areas is prohibited across the Republic of Cyprus. Citizens wishing to camp must exclusively utilize licensed, authorized camping sites to avoid legal consequences and potential fines. These measures are intended to maintain hygiene, ensure the security of other bathers, and preserve the ecological integrity of coastal areas throughout the summer.
