Severe wildfires are currently ravaging southwestern France and parts of Spain, driven by extreme heat and high winds. In France, the Gironde region has been hit hardest, with 420,000 decares burned and approximately 220,000 people evacuated. Authorities have deployed 2,500 firefighters, including Swiss teams, and 1,500 soldiers, along with 18 aircraft to combat the blaze, which has recently threatened the outskirts of Bordeaux. In Spain, where a national state of emergency remains in effect, authorities have ordered evacuations in eight municipalities near Toledo. While conditions have slightly improved near Madrid, Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez warned that difficult times lie ahead.
