Cypriot athletes set new national records at the Greek Athletics Championships
Cypriot athletes achieved notable success at the Panhellenic Athletics Championships held in Volos on July 25, 2026, setting two new national records. Christalla Hatzipolydorou established a new women's national record in the 3,000m steeplechase with a time of 10:40.62, surpassing the previous record of 10:40.79 held by Stella Christoforou since April 2011. Hatzipolydorou, trained by Marios Patsalidis, finished 7th in the race while competing out of competition.
In the men's category, Pavlos Nikolaou set a new Cyprus U23 national record in the 400m dash with a time of 46.20 seconds, earning a silver medal. This performance brought him very close to the overall men's national record of 46.16 seconds held by Evripidis Dimosthenous. Other notable results for Cypriot competitors included Emmanouil Christodoulou, who won a bronze medal in the 4x100m relay, marking a successful opening day for the Cypriot contingent, many of whom compete for Greek clubs due to their academic studies in Greece.
