Convict on leave arrested for restaurant burglary in Paphos
A 56-year-old European national currently serving a six-year prison sentence was arrested on Sunday, July 26, 2026, for allegedly burglarizing a restaurant in Paphos and stealing approximately 6,000 euros. The suspect had been granted temporary leave to visit his family under the supervision of the Center for Guidance, Extramural Employment and Rehabilitation of Prisoners, having already served more than half of his original sentence for theft by a servant and money laundering.
Following his arrest in the early hours of Sunday morning, the man was taken into custody. Authorities intend to bring him before the Paphos District Court today to request a detention order to facilitate further investigation. The Ministry of Justice and Public Order has stated that the individual's participation in the rehabilitation program is now under review, and standard procedures regarding his incarceration status are being activated following these events.
