Formula 1 has officially announced a significant change to its 2026 racing calendar due to ongoing instability in the Middle East. The Bahrain Grand Prix, originally scheduled for the season, has been canceled. In its place, the Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia will return to the world championship schedule for the first time since 2017.

The replacement race is set to take place between October 2 and October 4, 2026, positioning it between the Azerbaijan and Singapore Grand Prix events. F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali confirmed the move, praising the sport's ability to adapt and find solutions to maintain the championship's continuity. The decision follows the earlier cancellation of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, which was also affected by regional tensions.

While the Saudi Arabian event remains off the schedule, the addition of Malaysia provides a stable alternative for the sport's fans. Formula 1 authorities have emphasized their commitment to maintaining a robust calendar despite the geopolitical challenges, ensuring that the remainder of the 2026 season continues as planned.
