Miltos Tentoglou equals Greek long jump record at national championships

Greek long jumper Miltos Tentoglou achieved a jump of 8.66 meters at the National Athletics Championship held at the Panthessaliko Stadium in Volos on July 26, 2026. This performance equaled the long-standing Greek national record set by Louis Tsatoumas on June 2, 2007. However, the mark will not be officially recorded as a new record because it was achieved with a tailwind of +2.7 m/s, exceeding the legal limit of +2.0 m/s.

Despite the wind conditions, Tentoglou demonstrated exceptional form, recording four jumps over 8.50 meters during the competition. The athlete expressed confidence in his current physical state, stating that he is aiming for even greater distances, specifically mentioning a potential 8.75-meter jump in future events. He noted that a later attempt of 8.64 meters was technically superior but suffered from a flawed landing.

Following this performance, World Athletics updated its rankings, placing Tentoglou back at the top of the world standings with 1,370 points. He surpassed Italian athlete Mattia Furlani, who holds 1,368 points, marking a return to the number one position for the first time in approximately ten months.
