Manolis Siopis departs Panathinaikos for Turkish club Karagumruk

Greek international midfielder Manolis Siopis has officially concluded his tenure at Panathinaikos to continue his career in Turkey with Karagumruk. The 32-year-old player, who joined the Athenian club in January 2025, recorded 52 appearances during his eighteen months with the team. Following the termination of his contract, he opted for a return to the Turkish league despite interest from other clubs.

APOEL and Aris Thessaloniki were among the teams interested in acquiring the defensive midfielder, but ultimately failed to secure his signature. Panathinaikos confirmed the departure on July 27, 2026, noting that the move allows the club to save a significant portion of the salary that was originally contracted to run until the summer of 2027. Some sources report that the transfer essentially saw the player leave as a free agent.

Following the announcement, Siopis posted a farewell message on Instagram, expressing gratitude to the Panathinaikos family, his teammates, and the club staff. He is now set to begin his new chapter in the second division of Turkish football with Karagumruk, where he joins a league he previously experienced while playing for Alanyaspor and Trabzonspor.
