Cyprus police conduct nationwide security operations

Over the nights of July 26 and 27, 2026, the Cyprus Police conducted a series of organized, nationwide security operations targeting urban areas. These actions were designed to prevent criminal activity, maintain public order, and increase the public's sense of security through intensive patrols and coordinated checks.

During the first night of operations, police checked 583 vehicles and 822 individuals, resulting in 12 arrests for various offenses, including theft, illegal entry, possession of stolen property, drug possession, and illegal residence. Officers also conducted 69 premise checks leading to 11 reports, while traffic enforcement resulted in 316 citations, 12 investigations, and the impoundment of 10 vehicles. Specifically, 115 citations were for speeding, 10 for driving under the influence of alcohol, and one for drug-impaired driving.

A subsequent operation on the following night resulted in 16 additional arrests, the inspection of 546 vehicles and 708 individuals, and 36 premise checks. Traffic enforcement during the second night yielded 282 citations, with 80 cases of speeding, three drivers found positive for alcohol, and two positive results for drug tests, while six more vehicles were impounded.
