Police conduct nationwide security operations across Cyprus

Over the course of three nights between July 27 and July 29, 2026, the Cyprus Police executed a series of coordinated, nationwide security operations aimed at preventing crime and maintaining public order. Officers conducted intensive patrols in urban areas, inspecting hundreds of vehicles and business premises.

On the night of July 27, 12 individuals were arrested for various offenses, including theft and drug possession, following the inspection of 583 vehicles and 69 premises. A separate operation on July 28 resulted in 16 arrests for offenses such as illegal employment and drug possession, with 546 vehicles stopped. A final reported operation on July 29 led to 3 arrests for illegal residency, with 492 drivers and 154 passengers checked. Traffic enforcement was a primary focus throughout these operations, resulting in hundreds of citations for speeding and alcohol-related violations, as well as the impounding of numerous vehicles across the country.

The operations are part of an ongoing police strategy to increase presence in key areas and enhance public safety. Law enforcement officials have indicated that these preventive actions will continue as a regular measure to deter criminal activity.
