Police conduct series of nationwide preventive operations in Cyprus

The Cyprus Police carried out several nationwide preventive operations between July 27 and July 30, 2026, aimed at curbing criminal activity, maintaining public order, and improving community safety. These efforts involved intensified patrols, vehicle inspections, and checks on various premises across urban areas.

Over the course of these nights, police stopped hundreds of vehicles and checked numerous individuals, resulting in a varying number of arrests each night. Specifically, 12 people were arrested on July 27, 16 on July 28, three on July 29, and four on July 30. Charges included drug possession, illegal employment, violations of immigration law, and property theft. Furthermore, police issued hundreds of traffic citations for speeding and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, while dozens of vehicles were impounded. Inspections of business premises also led to several reports regarding illicit activities.

These operations reflect ongoing efforts by law enforcement to address rising concerns about local criminality. According to official reports, these initiatives will continue as part of a routine strategy to maintain public confidence and safety, with police maintaining a stepped-up presence in key areas to prevent future offenses.
