Recent road traffic accidents across Cyprus

Several traffic incidents were reported across Cyprus between July 28 and July 30, 2026. A fatal collision occurred on Tuesday afternoon in Strovolos, where 63-year-old cyclist Giorgos Kalligas died after being struck by a car driven by a 40-year-old woman at the junction of Agia Marina Street and Strovolou Avenue. Meanwhile, on the Liopetri–Xylophagou road, a separate two-vehicle collision on Tuesday morning resulted in two people being trapped in their cars before being rescued by fire services and transported to Famagusta General Hospital.

Additional traffic disruptions occurred on the Nicosia–Larnaca and Limassol–Nicosia motorways due to various vehicle breakdowns, including a truck immobilization near Choirokoitia. On Thursday, a multi-vehicle pileup involving four cars near the Tsirio Stadium on the Limassol–Paphos motorway caused significant traffic congestion, though authorities reported only material damage in that instance. The Nicosia Traffic Department is continuing its investigation into the fatal accident in Strovolos, while local authorities remain tasked with managing road safety and ongoing traffic maintenance works.
