Driver arrested following hit-and-run in Limassol
A 20-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday, July 28, following a hit-and-run collision in Limassol that left a 24-year-old Syrian national in critical condition. The incident occurred around 10:45 p.m. on Sunday, July 26, at the intersection of Solonos and Sapphous Streets. Authorities report that the victim, who was operating an electric personal mobility device, allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign, resulting in a collision with a car moving north. The car's driver fled the scene immediately after the impact.
Investigations revealed that the injured man was not wearing a helmet or reflective clothing and was riding on a street where electric scooters are prohibited. The suspect was apprehended after police located the vehicle, which has been impounded for forensic examination. During questioning, the 20-year-old admitted to fleeing the scene, claiming he lacked the necessary driving documents. The 24-year-old victim remains hospitalized in critical condition.
