The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Cyprus Police Headquarters is currently collecting witness statements regarding a 2022 complaint involving five allegedly illegal hires within the Paphos Municipality. These actions occurred during the tenure of the currently suspended mayor, Phedon Phedonos, and are part of a broader investigation into four separate complaints filed by a senior municipal officer.

The complaints, which target suspended Mayor Phedon Phedonos and former Municipal Secretary Themis Filippidis, were originally lodged with the Paphos CID in the spring of 2022 before being transferred to the Police Headquarters. Following a review of the case file this past January, the Attorney General instructed additional investigative steps, specifically requesting testimony from council members who served during the period in question. As reported by local media, these officials are now being summoned to provide their accounts.

The investigation follows findings from the Audit Office, which had been tasked with reviewing municipal operations. The legal process remains ongoing as authorities continue to fulfill the specific investigative directives issued by the Law Office earlier this year to determine if irregularities occurred in the municipal hiring process.
