Cyprus petroleum product sales decline in June 2026

Total petroleum product sales in Cyprus reached 129,479 tonnes in June 2026, marking an 8.0 per cent decrease compared to the same month in 2025. According to data from the Statistical Service, sales from petrol stations specifically fell by 1.4 per cent to 59,271 tonnes. Significant year-on-year declines were observed in kerosene (-51.0 per cent), light fuel oil (-44.2 per cent), and heating oil (-16.8 per cent). Additionally, ship fuel supplies dropped by 14.1 per cent and aviation fuel by 13.7 per cent. Conversely, heavy fuel oil saw a notable increase of 74.8 per cent, and petrol sales rose slightly by 1.8 per cent. Total petroleum stocks at the end of June 2026 fell by 19.6 per cent compared to May 2026.

Contextually, these figures reflect a market adjusting to geopolitical instability and elevated fuel prices in the European Union. Eurostat data indicates that fuel and lubricant prices for personal transport in Cyprus were 18.6 per cent higher in June 2026 than a year earlier, among the highest annual increases within the bloc. Despite the year-on-year decline, total sales in June 2026 rose 1.5 per cent compared to May 2026, and cumulative sales for the first half of 2026 increased by 1.2 per cent compared to the same period in 2025.
