Trial set for 22-year-old following stabbing in Aradippou

A 22-year-old Sri Lankan national has been committed to trial before the Larnaca Criminal Court, with proceedings scheduled for October 15. The defendant will remain in custody until the trial date. He faces serious charges, including attempted murder, acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm, and assault, following an incident involving his 33-year-old housemate.

The attack occurred during the early hours of July 19, 2026, at the pair's shared residence in Aradippou. According to police reports, the two men had spent the evening consuming alcohol in Livadia with a third individual before returning home after midnight. An argument that began outside the residence escalated inside, where the suspect allegedly armed himself with two kitchen knives. The victim sustained seven stab wounds, including two to the chest, three to the left arm, one in the abdomen, and one to the right hand.

Following the incident, the victim was transported to Larnaca General Hospital and subsequently transferred to Nicosia General Hospital. Authorities confirmed that his condition, which was initially critical, has stabilized, and he is no longer in danger. While most sources identify both men as Sri Lankan nationals, one report mistakenly refers to them as Greek nationals.
