Russian strikes hit Ukrainian port infrastructure and ships

On July 26 and 27, 2026, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported a series of airstrikes targeting Ukrainian port facilities and vessels in Chornomorsk, Odesa, and Mykolaiv. Moscow claimed these sites were being utilized for the transit of military cargo, fuel, and lubricants intended for the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

Separately, Ukrainian port authorities confirmed that the bulk carrier Golden Leo, flying the Guinea-Bissau flag, sank off the coast of Odesa on July 26. The vessel, which had been carrying a cargo of corn, sustained severe damage during a previous Russian strike on July 19. According to officials, nine crew members were killed in the incident, while eight others were rescued. While Russia initially reported striking multiple vessels, it has not issued a formal comment regarding the sinking of the Golden Leo.

These attacks mark an escalation in the ongoing conflict regarding maritime logistics in the Black Sea. Ukrainian authorities are currently monitoring the aftermath of the sinkings and the destruction of fuel storage facilities.
