Wildfires in Paphos district districts

On July 29, 2026, two wildfires occurred in the Paphos district. The first blaze broke out around 1:00 pm in an agricultural area near the community of Choletria, burning approximately 2.5 hectares of dry grass, trees, and wild vegetation. Firefighting efforts involved ten vehicles and two aircraft. Local officials confirmed that two residential properties were saved due to the swift intervention of emergency crews, and the fire was successfully brought under control.

Later the same day, a second fire erupted at 3:54 pm in the Alonia area of the Prodromi district in Polis Chrysochous. This blaze covered five decares of low vegetation and was fully contained by 4:10 pm following the deployment of twelve personnel and five fire engines from the Forestry Department and the Fire Service. Investigations into the causes of both incidents are ongoing.

Following these events, the Forestry Department issued a 'Red Alert' for July 30, 2026, warning of extreme fire danger across the island. Authorities have cautioned the public against activities that could trigger further blazes, citing strict penalties under national forestry and countryside fire prevention laws.
