Nicosia's Cyens Hub selected as a finalist for the 2026 Regiostars Awards

The transformation of the old municipal market in Nicosia into the Cyens Hub, a specialized research and innovation center, has been named one of the top 25 social cohesion projects in Europe for 2026. Selected from a pool of 274 candidates, the project is now a finalist in the "A Competitive and Smart Europe" category of the Regiostars Awards.

The project was implemented under the Thalia 2021-2027 cohesion policy program with a total investment of €7.8 million. It represents a joint effort between the European Union, the Republic of Cyprus, and the Municipality of Nicosia to combine architectural heritage preservation with urban revitalization and technological advancement. Currently, the site houses the permanent headquarters of the Cyens Center of Excellence.

Finalists are scheduled to present their projects to the judging panel in Brussels on October 13, 2026, during the European Week of Regions and Cities. The winners across five categories, as well as the public choice award recipient, are set to be announced on October 14.
