Investigation launched after four-year-old declared brain dead in Cyprus

A four-year-old boy from Limassol has been declared brain dead after being treated for meningitis symptoms at the Makarios Hospital in Nicosia for the past two weeks. The child was initially taken to Limassol General Hospital by his parents, but was later transferred to the capital due to a rapid deterioration in his health condition.

The boy's parents have publicly accused the attending pediatrician and the medical staff at Limassol General Hospital of negligence, claiming that delays and errors in their medical judgment led to the child’s current state. In response to these allegations, the State Health Services Organization (OKYPY) issued a statement expressing sympathy and confirming that an internal investigation has been launched to determine the facts of the case. The authorities have pledged to handle the inquiry with objectivity as they examine the clinical procedures followed by the medical personnel involved.
