Cyprus makes historic debut at Wacken Open Air festival

For the first time in history, Cyprus is being represented at the Wacken Open Air festival in Germany, recognized as the world's largest and most significant heavy metal music event. The Cypriot metal band Speak in Whispers is set to perform on stage on July 29, 2026.

The group secured their spot at the legendary festival by winning the Wacken Metal Battle Greece/Cyprus competition. This victory serves as a milestone for the island's music scene, transitioning from what was once considered an unattainable ambition for local artists to a realized international achievement. The band is accompanied in Hamburg by representatives from the organization Rock Island Events, which manages the Wacken Metal Battle Cyprus, along with a group of supporters who traveled to witness the performance.

This participation marks a significant advancement for Cypriot artists within the global heavy metal community, establishing a new presence for the country's cultural output on the international stage.
