Major wildfires threaten various regions of Greece

Multiple wildfires have erupted across Greece, with critical fronts in Boeotia, Argolis, and the Egaleo area of Attica leading to widespread evacuations. The fire in Boeotia began on the morning of July 31, forcing hundreds of residents and tourists to flee toward the port of Livadostrata for sea-based rescues. Simultaneous blazes in Xironomi, Boeotia, and Chinitza, Argolis, have severely strained emergency services, with authorities implementing mass evacuations to prevent casualties.

Separately, the wildfire situation on Paros, which began on July 28 near the local landfill, has persisted for days with recurring flare-ups in areas such as Aspro Chorio, Kamari, and Agkairia. On July 31, a new fire emerged in the Egaleo region near Mount Poikilo, prompting the 112 emergency service to order the evacuation of Chaidari districts toward Peristeri. As of late July 31, over 100 firefighters and significant aerial assets are deployed to combat the fires. High winds and dry vegetation continue to hamper containment efforts, as authorities maintain high alert and investigate potential arson in some regions.
