Wildfire causes mass evacuations on the Greek island of Paros

A significant wildfire broke out on the afternoon of Tuesday, July 28, 2026, in the Kampi area of Paros, near the local landfill. The blaze, fueled by strong winds and dry vegetation, spread rapidly toward several settlements, including Agkairia, Trypiti, Aneratza, and Kamari. By July 29, authorities had ordered the evacuation of nine settlements, with residents and tourists directed toward Aliki beach for safety.

The firefighting operation involved substantial resources, including 32 vehicles, multiple helicopters, and aircraft, alongside support from volunteers and the Municipality of Paros. Specialized units, such as the 1st E.MO.DE., were deployed to bolster the effort. Despite initial containment efforts, a significant flare-up occurred on Thursday, July 30, prompting further emergency alerts via the 112 system for areas like Aspro Chorio.
