Series of fire incidents reported across Cyprus

Between July 29 and July 31, 2026, Cyprus experienced multiple fire incidents. On July 29, a car was destroyed in Paphos, leading to the arrest of a 35-year-old suspect who confessed to the arson following personal disputes. Concurrently, a printing facility in Agios Dometios was destroyed; police are investigating the case as arson. In Aradippou, a fire damaged four vehicles, including telescopic forklifts, while a separate fire in a Strovolos school canteen caused minor damage to the building facade.

On July 30, a blaze in a Liopetri livestock area was caused by a gas heater leak, resulting in the owner's hospitalization for smoke inhalation. Later that day and into July 31, residential fires were reported in Paphos and Larnaca. The Paphos incident left two people hospitalized with minor burns and smoke inhalation, while the Larnaca fire, which occurred in a vacant house in the Ayioi Anargyroi area, has been classified by authorities as a malicious act. Investigations are ongoing for all unresolved cases to determine the full extent of liability and identify those responsible for the intentional acts.
