Appeals court upholds detention of man for stalking and threats

The Cyprus Appeals Court has upheld a three-day detention order for a man accused of severe offenses against his former partner, following a ruling by the Limassol District Court. The suspect is being investigated for criminal acts including written death threats, distribution of non-consensual sexual material, harassment, stalking, and psychological abuse. The court determined that detention is necessary to protect the investigation, specifically to prevent the destruction of digital evidence and the intimidation of witnesses.

The victim, who maintained a relationship with the suspect from August 2024 to February 2025, had previously filed complaints against him. On May 30, 2026, a separate criminal case resulted in a court order prohibiting the suspect from approaching the woman within 100 meters or contacting her in any way. Despite this existing legal prohibition, the suspect allegedly continued his behavior, leading to a new investigation triggered by incidents reported on July 8, 2026.

The investigation into these new charges is ongoing, and the suspect remains in custody to ensure the integrity of the judicial process as the previous case against him remains pending for a hearing.
