Cyprus faces heatwave with yellow weather warning issued

Cyprus is currently experiencing a heatwave, with temperatures across the island expected to remain above average until August 1, 2026. The Department of Meteorology has issued a series of yellow weather warnings, specifically active from 14:00 to 16:30 on both Tuesday, July 28, and Wednesday, July 29, due to extreme heat in inland areas.

During this period, temperatures in inland regions are forecast to reach +40°C. Coastal temperatures are expected to range between +33°C and +36°C, while the Troodos mountains will see milder temperatures around +29°C to +30°C. The weather will remain clear and sunny with no expected rainfall, while winds may reach 4-5 on the Beaufort scale. Humidity levels are forecasted to be low in the interior and mountainous areas, with varied levels reported along the coast. Residents are advised to prepare for sustained heat as temperatures are not expected to drop significantly before the end of the week.
