Cypriot athletes continue competition at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow

Cypriot athletes competing at the 23rd Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, which began on July 23, 2026, participated in several swimming events on Tuesday, July 28. Swimmer Maria Erokhina finished 12th out of 17 competitors in the 200m individual medley with a time of 2:24.32, failing to qualify for the final. Alexandros Grigoriou narrowly missed the final of the 200m breaststroke, placing 9th overall with a time of 2:19.74, while Markos Iakovidis and Anna Hatziloizou also delivered strong performances in their respective 50m events.

Looking ahead to Wednesday, July 29, the final day of swimming, Maria Erokhina will conclude Cyprus's appearances in the pool. Meanwhile, the athletics competition continues as Olivia Fotopoulou prepares for the 200m preliminary rounds. Fotopoulou aims to secure direct qualification for the semifinals by placing in the top two of her heat, with an overall goal of advancing among the top 17 athletes from the 44 participants. Earlier in the games, the athletics team had already secured two medals for the Cypriot mission.
