Cyprus athletes progress in 23rd Commonwealth Games

The 23rd Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, which began on July 23, 2026, saw several developments for the Cypriot delegation. In swimming, Maria Erokhina completed her appearances, narrowly missing a finals spot by finishing 9th overall in the 200m breaststroke. Meanwhile, Valentina Savva placed 10th in the hammer throw amid adverse weather conditions, with Canadian Olympic champion Camryn Rogers securing gold with a new games record of 74.91m.

Track and field athletes achieved notable successes, with Olivia Fotopoulou qualifying for the women’s 200m semifinals after clocking 23.62 seconds. Petros Michaelides also advanced to the shot put final by recording a best throw of 18.70m, placing him 8th overall among 15 competitors. Both athletes are scheduled to compete in their respective final and semifinal rounds on July 30, 2026.

Looking ahead, the Cypriot team prepares for the debut of judo on July 31, 2026, featuring a squad of eight athletes.
