Lawyer issues ultimatum to Cypriot authorities over Larnaca assault case

Lawyer Alexandros Clerides has issued a five-day ultimatum to the President of Cyprus, the Attorney General, the Minister of Justice, and the Chief of Police, demanding a formal update on the investigation into a violent assault. The lawyer warned that he would escalate the matter to European Union institutions if no satisfactory response is provided within the given timeframe.

The case concerns an incident on January 17, 2026, when a man was severely beaten outside the Larnaca Police Headquarters. According to the legal representative, a group of individuals armed with axes and knives attacked the victim while he was on the ground, resulting in a fractured skull and a fractured elbow.

Despite the severity of the attack, the availability of video evidence, the identification of the suspects, and recorded witness testimonies, no criminal charges have been filed against the perpetrators to date. The legal counsel is now demanding accountability for the perceived lack of progress in the ongoing investigation.
