Paphos authorities crack down on illegal electric scooter use

On the evening of Tuesday, July 28, 2026, the Paphos traffic police conducted a targeted operation along the city's seafront to address the increasing number of violations involving Personal Mobility Devices (PMDs), such as electric scooters. This crackdown resulted in 23 reports, with 20 individuals cited for various regulatory offenses and three others caught riding on the pedestrian walkway of the harbor, where such devices are strictly prohibited. In the latter cases, the scooters were confiscated by authorities.

The operation follows a recent meeting at the Paphos Municipal Hall between Acting Mayor Angelos Onisiforou and police officials to address concerns over rising accidents and misuse of scooters in unauthorized urban areas. Since the beginning of 2026, 132 violations related to PMDs have been recorded in the Paphos district. Authorities emphasized that current regulations restrict the use of private electric scooters to roads with speed limits up to 30 km/h, cycle lanes, and designated shared paths. Officials have announced that further targeted operations will continue, with an upcoming focus on riders and rental companies operating without the required municipal permits to ensure public safety.
