Cyprus records 3.7 percent increase in average monthly wages for first quarter of 2026

The Cyprus Statistical Service (Cystat) released provisional data on Wednesday showing that average gross monthly earnings in the country rose by 3.7 percent during the first quarter of 2026 compared to the same period in 2025. Average monthly wages reached €2,601, up from €2,508 the previous year, while seasonally adjusted figures indicate a 0.8 percent increase compared to the fourth quarter of 2025.

Gender-based data shows that men earned an average of €2,776, an annual increase of 3.3 percent, while women earned an average of €2,378, representing a 4.2 percent annual increase. Despite the overall average, analysts caution that this figure is influenced by high earners; the majority of the workforce falls into the €1,500 to €2,999 income bracket. Demographic analysis reveals that most Cypriot employees are concentrated in this middle-income bracket, whereas non-Cypriot workers show a higher concentration in the category earning below €1,500.

While the statistical data confirms a continuing upward trend in labor market compensation, experts note that the average salary remains a less precise indicator of typical earnings than the median wage due to the influence of top-tier salary earners.
