Cyprus records 3.7 percent increase in average monthly wages for first quarter of 2026

According to preliminary data released by the Cyprus Statistical Service (Cystat) in late July 2026, the average gross monthly earnings for employees in Cyprus reached €2,601 during the first quarter of 2026. This reflects a 3.7 percent increase compared to the €2,508 recorded in the same period of 2025. On a quarterly basis, after adjusting for seasonal factors, average gross wages rose by 0.8 percent compared to the fourth quarter of 2025.

Statistical analysis shows that the largest share of the workforce, approximately 40.9 percent, falls within the €1,500 to €2,999 monthly salary bracket. Conversely, 33.9 percent of employees earn less than €1,500, while only 5.7 percent earn €6,000 or more. The data highlights a gender pay gap, with men earning an average of €2,776 and women €2,378; however, female wages grew by 4.2 percent year-on-year, outpacing the 3.3 percent growth seen for men. Furthermore, a demographic split exists regarding nationality, as Cypriot employees are primarily concentrated in the middle-income bracket, while non-Cypriot workers show a higher concentration in the lowest income category.

While the upward trend in nominal wages continues, experts note that the average figure is influenced by high earners, meaning it does not fully represent the reality for many workers at the bottom of the distribution.
