Cyprus Addictions Authority issues warning over dangerous CBD products

The Cyprus Addictions Authority (AAEK) issued a formal public warning on July 29, 2026, regarding consumer products marketed as CBD that may contain undisclosed synthetic or semi-synthetic cannabinoids. The alert follows an urgent notification from the European Drug Alert System (EDAS), operated by the European Union Drugs Agency (EUDA), which identified that such hazardous substances are currently present on the Cypriot market.

Dr. Christos Minas, President of the AAEK, warned that the health implications of these products are unpredictable, as they often contain psychoactive substances not declared on their packaging. The lack of transparency in the manufacturing and distribution of these unregulated goods prompted the intervention. In response, the company Klostiki Ltd has publicly supported the AAEK’s warning and is calling for immediate institutional regulation of the market to ensure consumer safety.

The authorities have urged the public to exercise extreme caution when purchasing CBD or herbal products. The situation remains active, with the AAEK focusing on monitoring the market and aligning its actions with EUDA guidelines to mitigate potential risks to public health.
