Diplomatic efforts to resume Cyprus peace talks under UN and EU coordination

Simultaneously, the European Union has ramped up its involvement, marked by the arrival of the newly appointed EU Special Representative for Cyprus, Raffaele Fitto, who met with President Nikos Christodoulides. The Nicosia government views the synchronicity between the UN and the EU as a positive development, asserting that the focus is on a strategic and systematic approach rather than immediate results. While some critics argue that the process lacks tangible progress, such as the opening of border crossings, the government maintains that the current engagement by both international bodies represents a significant shift compared to previous periods.
