Diplomatic efforts for Cyprus settlement continue following Guterres visit

Following the visit of UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to Cyprus, President Nikos Christodoulides maintains that diplomatic opportunities for resuming peace negotiations remain open. Although a breakthrough regarding an informal five-party conference was not achieved, the President emphasized that the UN Secretary-General remains committed to continuing his efforts. To address these developments, President Christodoulides has convened the National Council for August 3 to brief the members on the current situation and the progress of the peace process.

Simultaneously, the European Union is intensifying its engagement in the settlement process. Raffaele Fitto, the European Commission Executive Vice President and new EU special representative for the Cyprus problem, is scheduled to visit Cyprus from July 30 to July 31. His visit aims to support the UN-led process, with meetings planned with both President Christodoulides and Turkish Cypriot leader Tufan Erhurman. The commission stated that Fitto will coordinate his activities closely with the UN Secretary-General to facilitate a potential resolution. These developments occur alongside the ongoing contributions of the Cypriot diaspora, who were recently honored by President Christodoulides for their continued support of the nation.
