Cyprus confirms rosters for international athletics championships

Cypriot athletes are preparing for two major international competitions in August 2026. The World U20 Athletics Championships will take place at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon, from August 5 to August 9, 2026. Cyprus is sending its largest-ever delegation to this event, consisting of 11 athletes aged between 15 and 19 who successfully met the qualification standards set by the World Athletics Federation by the July 26 deadline.

Simultaneously, the European Athletics Championships are scheduled for August 10 to 16 in Birmingham, United Kingdom. Cyprus will be represented by 12 athletes—six men and six women—marking the second-largest delegation in the nation's history, following the 2016 Amsterdam games. Notable qualified participants include Iosif Kesidis (hammer throw), Filippa Fotopoulou (long jump), Elena Kulichenko (high jump), Milan Trajkovic (110m hurdles), Olivia Fotopoulou (200m), and Valentina Savva (hammer throw). While the final entry lists were closed on July 31, the federation noted that disc throwers Marina Hatzikosta and Iosif Michalis Papas narrowly missed the top-30 cutoff by a single position.
