First session of the Central Coordination Body for Crime Prevention held in Limassol

On Tuesday, July 29, 2026, the Central Coordination Body for Crime Prevention held its inaugural meeting in Limassol. Chaired by Limassol Mayor Yiannis Armeftis, the session focused on establishing strategic priorities to combat social issues, including juvenile delinquency, school violence, vandalism, public space misconduct, and domestic violence.

The newly formed body operates within the framework of national policy aimed at preventing violence and crime. It includes representatives from the Ministry of Justice and Public Order, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Education, Sport and Youth, the Deputy Ministry of Social Welfare, the Cyprus Police, the Office of the Commissioner for the Citizen, and the Youth Board of Cyprus. Mayor Armeftis serves as the representative for both the Union of Municipalities and the Union of Communities.

The primary objective of this committee is to coordinate and support the operations of local crime prevention councils across the island. By centralizing these efforts, the state intends to enhance the efficiency of preventative measures through better institutional cooperation and structured policy implementation.
