Deadly militant attack on police checkpoint in northwestern Pakistan

At least seven police officers and eight militants were killed during a violent attack on a security checkpoint in the Hangu district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan, late Wednesday. According to local police official Tariq Habib, the incident resulted in injuries to another 22 police officers. As of now, no group has claimed responsibility for the assault, and security forces are currently conducting a clearance operation in the area.

This attack follows another significant incident occurring on Friday in the Tank region of the same province. During that assault, attackers utilized an explosive-laden vehicle before opening fire, resulting in the deaths of 15 people, including military and police personnel, while 12 attackers were also reported killed. Authorities frequently attribute this resurgence in violence to the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), citing increased insurgent activity in regions bordering Afghanistan. The government maintains that the security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan has deteriorated significantly due to these militant groups.
