Cyprus issues new yellow weather alert as temperatures reach 40 degrees

The Cyprus Department of Meteorology has issued a new yellow weather alert for July 31, 2026, due to extreme heat. The warning is effective from 2:00 pm to 4:30 pm, with inland temperatures expected to reach 40 degrees Celsius. This follows a similar alert issued for the previous day, confirming that the current heatwave, driven by seasonal low pressure, continues to affect the region.

Throughout the day, weather remains mostly clear across the island. Regional temperature forecasts indicate highs of 33 degrees Celsius on the west and southwest coasts, 36 degrees on other coastal areas, and 31 degrees in the higher mountains. Overnight, temperatures are expected to drop to approximately 24 degrees inland and on the coast, and 19 degrees in the mountainous regions.

Authorities have confirmed that these conditions are expected to persist through the weekend and into next Monday, with temperatures remaining above seasonal averages. Residents are advised to take necessary precautions as meteorological services continue to monitor the ongoing intense thermal conditions to ensure public safety.
