Cyprus issues yellow weather warnings as heatwave continues

The Cyprus Meteorological Service has issued consecutive yellow weather warnings as a prolonged heatwave continues to impact the region. On Saturday, August 1, a warning (No. 42) was in effect from 14:00 to 16:30, with inland temperatures reaching 41°C and mountain temperatures hitting 32°C. A subsequent yellow alert was issued for Sunday, August 2, covering the same time frame, during which inland temperatures were forecast to reach approximately 40°C.

The weather conditions are driven by seasonal low pressure, resulting in clear skies and minimal wind. While coastal temperatures remain lower—averaging between 30°C and 36°C—inland areas continue to experience heat well above seasonal averages. The Meteorological Service reports that temperatures are expected to remain high through at least Wednesday, with no significant relief in sight.

Authorities have advised citizens to take necessary precautions against the intense heat, including limiting outdoor exposure during peak hours.
