Cyprus meteorology department issues series of yellow heatwave alerts

The Cyprus Meteorological Service has issued a series of yellow weather warnings due to persistent high temperatures affecting the island. On July 31, 2026, an initial alert (No. 41) was in effect between 14:00 and 16:30, with inland temperatures reaching 40°C. As the heatwave continued, a second warning (No. 42) was issued for August 1, 2026, covering the same time slot of 14:00 to 16:30.

During the peak of these events, inland temperatures climbed further to 41°C. Coastal temperatures remained high, with northern, western, and southwestern coasts reaching approximately 32°C and other coastal areas recording 36°C. Temperatures in higher mountainous regions also rose to 32°C. Seasonal low pressure remains the primary driver of these conditions.

The weather is expected to remain mostly clear through the coming days, with temperatures staying above average for this time of year. Authorities continue to advise residents to take necessary precautions against the intense heat, as no significant change in the thermal patterns is currently forecast by the meteorological department.
