Yellow heat warning issued for Cyprus as temperatures reach 40 degrees

The Department of Meteorology in Cyprus has issued a yellow weather warning due to extreme temperatures expected to impact the island. A warning was active for Thursday, July 30, from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM, and a subsequent alert has been announced for Friday, July 31, valid from 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM.

During these periods, maximum temperatures in inland areas are forecast to reach 40 degrees Celsius. Coastal areas are expected to see lower temperatures, with western coasts reaching approximately 34 degrees and other coastal regions around 37 degrees, while mountain areas remain cooler at roughly 30 degrees. Nighttime temperatures will drop to around 25 degrees inland and along parts of the coast.

The current heat wave is attributed to seasonal low pressure affecting the region, leading to hot and mostly clear weather conditions. Meteorological officials and local authorities are continuing to monitor the situation closely as the mercury remains well above seasonal averages. Residents are advised to take necessary precautions against the heat, with no significant relief expected over the upcoming weekend.
