Debris removal on 1st April street in Paphos

On July 30, 2026, concerns were raised regarding the accumulation of tree trimmings on the sidewalk of 1st April Street in Paphos, located next to the Archbishop Makarios III Lyceum. The debris obstructed pedestrian traffic, forcing citizens onto the road and creating potential safety hazards. Andreas Kyriakou, president of the Chloraka Cultural Environmental Group, had urged the relevant authorities to clear the area immediately to protect students and vulnerable individuals.

Responding to public concerns, the Paphos Municipality cleared the site on the morning of July 30. Acting Mayor Aggelos Onisiforou explained that the tree cutting was performed by the Fire Service the previous night after a tree trunk fractured, necessitating urgent intervention for public safety. The municipality stated they were not notified of the work in advance, but dispatched cleanup crews immediately after reports of the obstruction appeared in the media.
