Public safety concerns raised over abandoned debris in Paphos

On July 30, 2026, residents and pedestrians in Paphos raised concerns regarding a hazardous situation on 1st April Street, located near the Archbishop Makarios III Lyceum. Following tree-trimming work in the area, a large pile of branches was left abandoned on the sidewalk, forcing pedestrians, including students and the elderly, to walk onto the busy road to pass by.

Andreas Kyriakou, President of the Chloraka Cultural and Environmental Group, has issued a formal call for municipal authorities to act immediately to remove the debris. He emphasized that the obstruction poses a significant risk to public safety, noting that near-miss accidents have already occurred at the site. The situation is considered urgent, as the proximity of the school and the volume of foot traffic increase the potential for serious injury.

Authorities have yet to remove the materials, and there is ongoing pressure from community members for a swift cleanup. The incident remains a point of contention as residents await intervention to restore safe access to the sidewalk and ensure the safety of vulnerable citizens.
